Meet the Seattle Team Behind Ridgeline Roofing Co. of Seattle
Every roof we touch in Seattle gets the same crew: people who live here, who know what a November storm does to a poorly flashed valley, and who treat your home like they’d treat their own mother’s place. We’re not a dispatch service calling in out-of-town labor. We’re the same faces, year after year, from Ballard reroofs to Renton emergency patches. Named for the ridge - the line where a roof proves itself - and we prove it together.
Our People
Neil Cavanaugh - Owner
Neil started carrying shingles for his uncle’s crew in White Center at sixteen, and he still climbs when the job demands it. He founded Ridgeline Roofing Co. in 1984 after watching too many homeowners get burned by fly-by-night outfits that vanished once the check cleared. These days he runs estimates personally across King County, and he’ll tell you the same thing he told a skeptical homeowner in Magnolia last March: “A square deal: the price we quote is the price you pay.” His dry humor tends to surface right when a conversation starts getting too technical - usually right around the part where someone’s explaining why synthetic underlayment is “disrupting” the industry. Neil lives in West Seattle with his wife and a garage full of salvaged cedar shakes he can’t bring himself to throw away.
Marcus T. - Lead Technician
Marcus joined us in 2011 after eight years with a commercial outfit that treated residential work like an afterthought. He’s GAF Master Elite certified and the person Neil calls when a job goes sideways - which in Seattle usually means discovering three layers of asphalt over original cedar in a Capitol Hill Victorian, or figuring out why a Seward Park home’s “mystery leak” only appears during a southeasterly wind. Marcus keeps a waterproof notebook in his truck where he sketches flashing details that worked, and he’s trained four of our current installers from green apprentices to competent leads. On weekends he’s usually fishing the Skykomish or arguing about Mariners bullpen decisions at a bar in Georgetown.
Elena R. - Senior Installer
Elena came to us through the Pacific Northwest Roofers Apprenticeship program in 2015, and she’s one of the few people Neil trusts to run a full tear-off without him checking in. She’s CertainTeed SELECT ShingleMaster certified and specializes in the steep-slope work that sends other crews scrambling for their harnesses - think Queen Anne hillsides and the pitched roofs tucked into the trees near Discovery Park. Elena grew up in a house with a perpetually leaking garage in Shoreline, which she credits for both her patience with frustrated homeowners and her almost obsessive attention to drip edge detail. She coaches youth softball in Lake City and has been known to spot a failing ridge vent from the sidewalk while walking her dog.
Darnell J. - Service Coordinator
Darnell is the live voice answering at 2 a.m. when a pine tree meets a roof in Federal Way, and the person who makes sure Marcus or Elena actually has the Owens Corning Duration shingles in “Teak” before they drive to Shoreline. He spent six years dispatching for a regional HVAC company before coming to Ridgeline in 2019, and he understands that “emergency” means different things to different people - a slow drip over the nursery versus a gaping hole over the living room. Darnell tracks every open job on a whiteboard in the office that he’s color-coded by urgency, and he personally calls every homeowner within 24 hours of job completion to confirm satisfaction. He plays stand-up bass in a jazz quartet and lives in Beacon Hill with two opinionated cats.
James “Wren” W. - Apprentice
Wren started with us in 2023, fresh out of a construction program at South Seattle College and hungry to learn something he could build a career on. He’s currently working toward his journeyman certification under Elena’s mentorship, and he’s already developed a reputation for asking the questions other people are too proud to ask - like why we’re cutting the step flashing that particular length on a Wallingford dormer. Wren grew up in a house his grandfather built in Rainier Beach, and he talks about wanting to know roofs well enough to spot problems before they become emergencies. He commutes by bike from Columbia City even in weather that makes the rest of us question his judgment, and he’s slowly converting the crew to his preferred coffee roaster in Georgetown.
One Standard, Every Job
The 90-Day Done Right Promise isn’t a piece of paper in a filing cabinet - it’s Marcus double-checking his valley weave before he packs up, Elena photographing her finished flashing so Darnell can send it to the homeowner, and Wren learning that “good enough” isn’t in our vocabulary. We stand behind it - no paperwork, no arguing. Every technician is background-checked and uniformed, every inspection documented with photos from your actual roof, not a scary speech in the driveway. We’ll be there when we say. Done right - and if it is not, we make it right. That’s how we’ve operated since 2016, and that’s how we plan to keep operating long enough to see Wren training his own apprentice.
